In 1980 with 25 employees, Intel began operations in New Mexico on a small piece of land previously used as a sod farm. Today, thousands of New Mexicans are developing and manufacturing technology that is playing a vital role in Intel’s purpose to create world-changing technology that improves the life of every person on the planet. Intel’s Commitment to Sustainability

Sustainable water management is also critical to our operations, and in addition to our on-site conservation, we also fund collaborative community-based projects that restore water to the environment – including projects that are benefitting New Mexico watersheds. Intel is committed to reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in our global operations by 2040 and in our upstream scope 3 by 2050. Our Rio Rancho operations are supporting these ambitions: adopting on-site energy saving measures and purchasing renewable electricity to cover 100% of our electricity use in New Mexico.

Intel continues to work to identify innovative ways to achieve zero waste to landfill and implement circular economy strategies for our manufacturing waste streams. In New Mexico, Fab 9 is on track to meet our goal to recycle at least 90% of construction waste associated with the project.

CUB

The Central Utility Building is the utility hub for Intel New Mexico's factory operations and is located on the east side of the site. In addition to providing electricity, city water, ultrapure water (UPW), heating and air conditioning, and compressed air to support factory operations, the CUB also collects all waste and wastewater for on-site treatment or off-site disposal in accordance with regulatory authority guidelines.
